Club Party Onboard The Golden Flame

Capital Pleasure Boats speaks to Tim The Tourman about his upcoming Halloween event.

Who are you and what do you do?

I am Tim Oberg. I moved to London from Brisbane, Australia in January 2001 to do my two year stint as a Physical Education teacher. After 18 months of professional hell I decided to start a travel and events company called Tim The Tourman and six years later I am still in London going strong!

How many times have you organised a boat party?

I have organised two boat parties so far, in August 2006 and June 2007.

Do you theme your events?

Yes, the two boat parties I have organised so far have been titled ‘Toga On The Thames’. As the name suggests they have been toga parties with a dash of London sightseeing thrown in for good measure!

What type of crowd do you usually attract?

Most of my customers are young professional expats based in London. The nationality mix is probably 50% Australian, 20% New Zealand, 15% British, 10% South African and 5% other. My type of crowd is very consistent as my only means of promotion is word-of-mouth, and like-minded people attract like-minded people!

What do you like about Capital Pleasure Boats / our boats?

From day one CPBS have provided a very friendly yet professional service at a competitive price. Also, their location at Temple Pier is excellent.

Which is your favourite boat and why?

I have used two boats, Golden Jubilee and Golden Flame. Both have been excellent.

What's your favourite sight along the river Thames?

My favourite sights along the river Thames are probably the Houses of Parliament and Greenwich. Sailing through the Thames Barrier is also fun!

Are you planning any other boat parties this year?

Yes, on October 27 we are running the inaugural Halloween themed ‘Terror On the Thames’ party cruise.

Do you organise events other than boat parties?

Yes. The company organises: group tours to European festivals like the Oktoberfest and La Tomatina; long weekend party tours to such diverse places as Iceland and Scandinavia; and single day events such as 2006’s successful attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the largest pub crawl ever held (2,278 people).

Which three words best describe your CPBS experience?

Friendly. Professional. Easy.

What do you enjoy most about the parties you hold on our boats?

Our DJ on my first cruise was so good that I requested him for our second. Again, he was outstanding, and I look forward to having him again in October.

If money / distance were no object what would be the ultimate venue for your events?

Well, nothing beats being on the water, so I’d say it would be hard to beat partying on a yacht in Sydney Harbour!

When is your next CPBS function?

October 27, 6-10pm, ‘Terror On The Thames’ Halloween Party Cruise. We have pre-and post-drinks across the road at The Walkabout, Temple.
